About Me
Welcome! I am Matthias Garzke, guest researcher and PhD student from the Chair of Space Informatics and Satellite Systems of the Julius-Maximilians-University of Würzburg, Germany.
My Reseaerch
I hold an M.Sc. in Aerospace Engineering, with a research focus on gecko-inspired, mushroom-shaped dry adhesives. A major part of my work involves leading our team's contribution to the gEICko project. This project focuses on developing a capture kit based on dry adhesives capable of docking to unprepared and uncooperative orbital targets, such as space debris. Key aspects include developing an AI-enhanced Vision-Based Navigation (VBN) framework for relative pose estimation between chaser and target. Following initial gecko-based contact, the connection is reinforced using a rigid anchor system. Furthermore, tether-based docking and detumbling options are being investigated within the scope of this project.
Besides this project, my research focuses on optimizing gecko-inspired adhesives for space environments, improving contact mechanics and energy dissipation through damping, and developing docking prediction models.
